What it is
Clausewerk is a self-hosted contract document platform in active development. It is being built to keep a business's legal documents at branded URLs, preserve earlier versions, and bring proposed changes through human review. The document-hosting foundation is built; the wider drafting, release approval, and customer acceptance workflow is still under development.
Why it exists
Contracts often end up scattered across files, email threads, and hosted pages. When terms change, teams need a clear record of the previous text, the reason for the change, and who approved it. Clausewerk is being built to bring that work into one repeatable process.
Who it's for
Business owners, operations teams, and legal reviewers managing customer-facing contract documents.
Standout features
History that stays readable
The hosting foundation preserves published document versions at permanent URLs, so an update does not replace the earlier text.
Documents that travel
The rendering foundation produces web, PDF, and Word formats from Markdown source, supporting both online reading and offline review.
An approval-led workflow
The planned workflow combines change intake, AI-assisted proposals, and a human publication decision. Drafting and review are still being built; the full release process has not shipped.

What made it interesting to build
The project started with the need to manage a collection of related legal documents as a living system. Hosting the text is only one part of the problem: earlier versions must remain available, proposed edits need context, and publishing needs a clear decision. Development began with the document and rendering foundations before moving into drafting and review.
